Tell us a bit about yourself
My name's Lisa, i'm 25 and i've been making jewellery for around a year. I have a massive interest in anything crafty and creative and i've always loved to draw, paint and sew. I am a big sucker for animals (especially cute dogs; pugs and beagles in particular), anything with a vintage feel and internet shopping!

The idea for Listiques started from finding creative ways to craft on a shoestring budget. For as long as I can remember we've had a box of fabric scraps and button boxes in our home, cut offs from old clothes and odds and ends we have picked up from charity shops and carboot sales over the years. I enjoy taking something like an old skirt and a handful of buttons and transforming them into something completely different. I have carried over this ethos into Listiques where I try hard for each piece of jewellery to be made predominently from beads, buttons, fabrics, chains, fastenings and clasps that have come from recycled sources. I think this is a great way of re-using those pieces in the bottom of our jewellery boxes that we all have and never wear. It also means that I am able to keep costs lower for the customer as I am able to pick up supplies at reasonable prices. Nothing excites me more than taking a bunch of tired jewellery and discovering the possibilities from the charms and beads they feature. Owning a piece of Listiques jewellery means that you are owning something that has been made from hand picked items and your jewellery is completely unique and one off.

My blog is brand spanking new and has only been live for around 2 months and is designed for people who, like me, love fashion, art and making or owning handmade things. The blog features 'How to make...' step by step guides for DIY crafting, gives info about craft events and showcases wonderful artists and sellers. In the future I plan to expand the blog to include more articles about fashion, art and creative writing. I currently have a giveaway on my blog for a pair of handmade wire earrings and I hope to do more of these in the future.

Are your products inspired by what is currently popular or based more on your personal style and interests?
I like to follow current trends in my personal life and I think this is reflected in my jewellery. However I think that vintage is a big inspiration to me, wether it be prints, styles or ornate details and many of my items have this feel. My love of animals and nature also comes into my jewellery regularly with items like my felt pendant bird and rabbit necklaces.

What has been your biggest challenge so far?
My biggest challenge so far has been promoting my business and really getting 'out there' which is still something I am working hard on currently.

When you're having a crap day, what do you find motivates you?              I am lucky enough to have a fantastic boyfriend who is so supportive of what I do and is fantastic at making me smile on those grouchy days! I am also quite a determined person and I think this keeps me going and makes me keep trying when things are not going well. If all else fails some peanut m&m's never fail to cheer me up :)

What have you found to be the best piece of advice you've been given?
I have found the Etsy community in general to be so wonderful for giving advice and support. One time when I was feeling low and not getting many views to my shop, an etsian said to me that my jewellery was lovely and not to give up! I think that just keeping trying things, wether they work out or not, is the only way to succeed and keep motivated.
