I don't know about you, but I Love Lucy.
Saturday the 6th of August marked the 100th anniversary of Lucille Ball's birthday and it certainly did not go un-noticed. We have been itching to get along to an 'I Love Lucy' convention for a long time, and with a reported 900+ 'Lucy-likies flocking to pay homage to the comedic queen in her home town: Jamestown N.Y, we are delighted to see that the passion has not faded. Can you imagine all the red poodle perms? Can you imagine all the whaling?

Incredibly, 2011 also celebrates the 60th anniversary of the show itself, and it is easy to see why it has been so loved. First airing on tv in America in 1951, Lucy and partner Desi Arnaz created a series so charming and spectacular it has never been off screen since. The show was such a big hit that it even crossed the water; here in the UK, I Love Lucy was the first American sitcom to be aired - on ITV no less! The show was also groundbreaking as it was the first to use the three-camera set up before a live studio audience and overcame many technical obstacles of early tv through ingenious lighting, set design and editing. Phew! Not just a pretty face, right?!
Who would have thought the relationship between a crazy, fame hungry ginger, her cuban musician husband Ricky Richardo and her next door neighbors would have created such an impact on the whole world? Such charm and good wholesome fun is not only timeless, but completely addictive too!
I don't know about you, but I'm not sure where the world would be without Lucy.. but it sure isn't a place I would want to be in either!
So, here is to Lucy and the I Love Lucy show - may the re-runs never end.
